Stories that Inspire

Across the world, dedicated physicians bring hope to communities in need. Through their mission work, and with the support of donated New World Medical products, lives are transformed. These powerful firsthand stories shine a light on the extraordinary impact compassion and innovation can have when they come together.

Malik Kahook, MD - Mongolia

“With New World Medical’s donated Ahmed® Glaucoma Valves, we were able to bring hope to patients in urgent need, while also teaching local surgeons surgical techniques that will continue to benefit communities for years, creating a lasting impact in Mongolia.”

Deborah Ristvedt, MD - Sierra Leone

"In West Africa, we face tough conditions and advanced disease, yet with faith, teamwork, and community support, we’re restoring sight and transforming lives. Watching patients see again will never stop feeling like a miracle."

Matthew Recko, MD - Guatemala

"Glaucoma valve surgery was made possible using the Ahmed® Glaucoma Valve donated by New World Medical. This patient came to the surgery center in hopes of help in restoring vision and stopping advancing glaucoma.  She had a traumatic dislocated cataract in the right eye and advanced central island vision glaucoma of the left eye and was being led by her husband.  She was unable to afford surgery or medications.  We are able to perform MSICS cataract surgery with lens placement on the right and glaucoma tube shunt surgery on the left (protecting it with the patch grafts you donated).  She was seen the next day with renewed hope and vision as well as a controlled glaucoma pressure of 10mmHg.  Though there much life and time to go, she has hope that she will be able to continue seeing well into the future."

Letter from the Ukrainian Glaucoma Society

"I, Inna Valeriivna Mosieva, a resident of Chernihiv, Ukraine, born in 1964, sought care at the LLC “Micro Eye Surgery of Vasyl Shevchyk” clinic in Chernihiv after being diagnosed with glaucoma in my right eye. As the disease progressed, I was advised to undergo surgery to implant an Ahmed valve from New World Medical.
I am deeply grateful to New World Medical for providing the Ahmed valve, and to the team at the “Micro Eye Surgery of Vasyl Shevchyk” clinic for performing the surgery and giving me the chance to see and live without pain."
